Heterozygosity at Red Cell Antigen Locus L and Fertility in Chickens.

چکیده
A literature review on chicken blood groups provides ample evidence in support of an association between red cell antigens of chickens and performance traits of economic importance such as egg production, hatchability, weight of chicks at 9 to 10 weeks, and liveability of progeny, (see reviews by GILMOUR [1960] and BRILES [1964]). This evidence indicates a selective advantage of heterozygosis for blood group genes. The purpose of the present paper is to record further evidence of a similar advantage of heterozygosis at blood group locus L in either parent for fertility.

Estimating microsatellite based genetic diversity in Rhode Island Red chicken
This study aimed to estimate microsatellite based genetic diversity in two lines (the selected RIRS and control line RIRC) of Rhode Island Red (RIR) chicken. Genomic DNA of 24 randomly selected birds maintained at Central Avian Research Institute (India) and 24 microsatellite markers were used. Microsatellite alleles were determined on 6% urea-PAGE, recorded using GelDoc system and the samples ...
متن کاملGenetic diversity of local Yunnan chicken breeds and their relationships with Red Junglefowl.
Yunnan is situated in the Southwest China and encompasses regions having high biodiversity, including habitats for several ancestral species of domestic animals such as chicken. Domestic chickens in Yunnan were kept by peoples of varied ethnic and economic backgrounds living in highly varied geographic environments. To identify the genetic background of Yunnan domestic chickens and their relati...
متن کاملScreening for highly heterozygous chickens in outbred commercial broiler lines to increase detection power for mapping quantitative trait loci.
Two commercial broiler lines were used in an experiment to map quantitative trait loci (QTL) affecting disease resistance. Chickens from these lines were genotyped with 27 microsatellite markers to estimate heterozygosity and polymorphism information content (PIC), the probability that one parent is heterozygous at a marker locus and the other has a different genotype. Heterozygosity estimated ...
متن کاملEvaluation of genetic diversity and conservation priorities for Egyptian chickens
In this study, 21 microsatellite markers were used to genotype 196 Egyptian local chickens obtained from Fayoumi (n = 35), Dandarawy (n = 30), Baladi (n = 29), Sinai (n = 30), El-Salam (n = 36), and Golden Montazah (n = 36) strains. The results were compared to two pure commercial chicken populations reared in Japan-White Leghorn (n = 42) and Rhode Island Red (n = 43). A total of 162 alleles we...
متن کاملGenetic Variability and Relationships of Native Japanese Chickens Assessed by Microsatellite DNA Profiling - Focusing on the Breeds Established in Kochi Prefecture, Japan -
Blood samples were collected from eight native Japanese breeds of chickens (Miyadi-dori, Ohiki, Onaga-dori, Shoukoku, Tosa-Jidori, Tosa-Kukin, Toutenkou and Uzurao) and two foreign breeds of chickens (White Leghorn and Rhode Island Red) to examine the genetic variability and relationships among the breeds by using a microsatellite DNA technique. Except for the Shoukoku breed, the other Japanese...
